Project Synopsis Checklist:
- Understand the difference between a project synopsis and business case or feasibility study:
- Project Synopsis is a narrative summary of your project.
- A purpose of such a document is to give overview of a project to a reader.
- It is not a document to approve a project need, feasibility, or advisability.
- It is to represent your project and to explain it to a reader.
- Identify (differentiate) the project by giving it a specific Name, Title and ID.
A formal part of the project synopsis, including identities of your organization and other details.
- Provide a reader with Theoretical Background on the project.
Write your project introductory page, including description of your industry, marketplace, etc.
- State the Problem to be resolved by your project or exiting situation to be changed.
- What is the problem or situation and why it is chosen to be resolved or changed?
- Why this problem was selected as relevant for organization or for potential stakeholders?
- How this will contribute into mission and strategy of organization?
- Describe specific Project Objective(s) and Scope of the project.
- What achievements are targeted by the project?
- What working constraints keep the project from a scope creep?
- Give a layout of the Methodology required to attain these objectives (explain your solution).
- Select appropriate level of detail to avoid being too specific.
- Categorize the project activities by project phases.
- Itemize a schedule of project tasks to be completed during the project.
- List the planned Outputs of the project (pros and cons of your solution).
What deliverables and results the project will produce while being moved towards its goals?
- Review the Life Cycle of the Project.
- Calculate approximate Costs of the project and provide Costs-Benefits analysis to compare costs of the benefits against their worth.
- Plan the project preparation (processes to get the project on track, like planning and staffing).
- Identify the target group(s) of the project and character of their benefits or involvement:
- Stakeholders (investors);
- Staff;
- Customers;
- Users;
