- Get a course of shots.
Ask for consultation of your doctor to know what medicines or vaccination can be taken in order to ensure prophylaxis of flu. Make sure that your family members get a qualified prophylaxis too as far as people of different ages may require different doses of medicaments.
- Get enough of vitamins daily.
Consult with your doctor regarding vitamins which can be taken. Eat oranges and lemons to get vitamin C.
- Avoid overcrowded places.
If there is no urgent need - prefer walking short distances instead of using public transport as well as to avoid shopping during peak-hours when there are a lot of shoppers inside.
- Use a facemask when you are in public transport or in overcrowded places with poor ventilation during flu season.
If you wear a disposable facemask there is no guarantee that you can completely avoid the virus as far as this virus is extremely small and easily can go through structure of your facemask, but this mask still gathers a lot of moisture from outside air and this can hold back infection. When you are in empty open air locations - take off your mask and breathe fresh air.
- Ensure ventilation of enclosed premises where people work (ex: office, classroom).
If there is no good ventilation – arrange regular aerations (once in 1-3 hours) through opened doors and windows because refreshing of air decreases possible concentration of infection in room.
- Keep shared surfaces clean.
Arrange regular cleaning and disinfecting of shared surfaces like telephones, light switches, keyboards, doorknobs and everything like this, because virus can contaminate them.
- Wash your hands frequently.
Ensure that you wash hands during 20 seconds with warm water and soap. This will help to remove bacteria and viruses. Remember to wash before and after eating, after using public facilities, touching shared surfaces that may have been contaminated by other people after coughing or sneezing.
- Cover up when you cough or sneeze.
Use a tissue, or raise your arm up to your face to cough or sneeze into your sleeve. Have a wet disinfecting wipe in your pocket, so you can clean your hands immediately after coughing or sneezing.
- If you get symptoms of flu - stay at home.
If you go out when you're sick, you may spread your illness to co-workers, classmates, neighbors or others. It may take you longer to get better if you are not well rested. Immediately call for doctor visit and consultation regarding the treatment.
