Financial Health Checklist The goal of this Financial Health Checklist is to enable a business organization to perform an assessment about its financial well-being. It provides general guidelines to measuring your company’s financial health. It is recommended to use the checklist in combination with other business review plans and financial analysis.

Audit Profit-and-Loss Statement.

  • Calculate the company’s revenue (the money obtained from the sale of your products/services before expenses are taken out)
  • Measure the expenses (the money spent on the company’s efforts to generate the revenue)
  • Determine the net income (the monetary result obtained after all revenues and expenses have been accounted for; it is calculate as the difference between the company’s revenue and expenses)
  • Determine the company’s ability to make profit (the net profit should be rather positive)
  • Make all the calculations for a certain period (usually one year or part of a year)

Review Balance Sheet.

  • Select a specific moment in time for carrying out balance sheet review (the best time is at the close of an accounting period)
  • Review your company’s assets, liabilities, and shareholders’ equity/capital
  • Divide the assets and liabilities into short-term and long-term obligations
  • Review how well the company pays for those obligations
  • Measure the amount of money left after satisfying all the liabilities
  • Be sure the shareholders’ (lenders, investors, owners, etc.) equity/capital is compensated
  • Check whether the balance sheet’s assets equal liabilities plus owners’ equity/capital

Analyze Cash-Flow Forecast.

  • Identify the sources and amounts of cash going into and out of your company over a 1-year period
  • Review the business’s projected growth
  • Check if the projections are met by actual cash flows
  • Investigate the company’s cash inflows and outflows by these directions:
    • Operations (incl. product sales)
    • Financing (incl. borrowings)
    • Investment (incl. sale/purchase of assets)
  • Check whether there are sufficient funds allocated to depreciation and amortization
  • Be sure the company is able to service its current-year debts and dividends

Determine Company’s Survival Ability.

  • Be sure your company’s total assets are greater than its total liabilities
  • Check whether the current assets (incl. cash, receivables and securities) cover the current liabilities (incl. payables, deferred revenue and credit note payments)
  • Confirm your company’s cash flows greatly exceed its current liabilities
  • Be sure your business has sufficient funds for reinvestment and accumulation
  • Carefully review the profit and loss accounts.....
